Why would an asset manager ask me to file a police report for missing appliances? Appliances are personal property of the prior homeowner, not fixtures or real property.

Most appliances are sold with the property therefore included in the original mortgage, or could be missing after an interior BPO, washer and dryer are not normally part of that and the refrigerator occasionally is not.
Missing appliances usually mean theft and the banks can sometimes recoup some money for that if it goes over $1000. Not too many banks waste the time but I think we'll see this more often, especially if they can include other damage such as vadalism to rack up the bill.
