So, has anyone tried them last year, or still using them - with any sort of ROI?

NO!! and not doing anymore.
I attributed one assignment from a new client when the banner ads first came out 2-3 years ago. The home had title issues and was withdrawn, I haven't had an assignment from that client since.
One of my AMs said it made it harder to find me because she was used to looking in the main body of the page. She called with houses to assign and I had to tell her how to find me (in the banner for those zips). I saw a negative return and cancelled.
