Back To The Basics

Back To The Basics..Should I or Shouldn't I.From REO Agent,Loan Modification Specialist,Short Sale Specialist and beyond where do you fit in?Are you in the so-called Thick Of Things...I know you ask what kind of question is this....The kind that says where do you fit in and what should you do if you don't...For those that are not in the "The Thick of Things" what should they be doing.I say Back To The Basics. What are you doing to promote yourself in this market. What about the traditional farming or knocking on doors...Remember that?I remember when I first started out as a Newbie (you know that is what new agents are called).I had to start with my personal contacts and let them know what I was doing and even put them on a drip campaign.Did that work? Yes it did...I called my local Title Company and asked for a list in a certain area. This was farming...I know this is not funny but I have not seen a postcard come to my house in years.Have you? What are you doing to get in the Thick of Things?I am going back to the basic....Where are my walking shoes?

  • Like a deer standing in headlights.....I like Rosa. That is exactly the truth.Agents standing around waiting and then they get stuck in the light. In these times I agree with you Rosa the Short Sales are the way to go.Generally speaking they are more paperwork but not a hassle like the foreclosures.I know for me to get a approval on repairs and getting your finances back is work.So right now sellers is the way to go....They will tell a friend about how you helped them.Asset company will not...
    Thanks Rosa
  • In light of the latest changes.... the latest moratorium, the latest toxic bank news etc, I agree, we as realtors might want to consider just the facts: listings from reo managers are nearly dead....The real needs still lie in short sales. ... the average seller can no longer just sell.... they really need us now. Seems we won our law suit and the banks have to pay the standard commissions,- THANK GOD!!, no more depressing surprizes at closing!!! Short sale your way and be open to the needs of your clients...it will work, so , why wait for the next news about the toxic bank?why give the media so much attention..we just end up like deer staring into oncomming traffic. Lets give our potential clients that much attention, we'll be doing great!! Just my 2 cents....Thanks All!!
  • Amen Beth...Don't put your eggs in one basket...Don't focus on one thing do many and learn many. You know what Beth when we started it was a detailed process that we had to do.I know for me it was boring but it worked. That is how people found out who we were.Right.I think everyone should find their niche and perfect it.
    Thank you Beth
  • Steve I like that come to Jesus meeting.I like the fact that we all are recreating our system.Like Steve is doing by setting a development and getting those leads.I know that we all have sat around getting up at 5 in the morning to catch that first BPO or hopefully get that listing..Now 5am is now 9am going to a office or communicating from home.
    Thanks Steve.
  • I am in the process of re-creating my "system" and going back to the basics is going to be a strong portion of it. The new social media, and internet marketing is also going to be part of it, but there are still plenty of buyers, young and mature, that still like things the "Good Old Fashioned Way" and if we have hire agents capable of doing both, so be it. I have learned the hard way in the past, not to put all my "eggs" in one basket.
  • While I have been really busy this summer, members of my team have been sitting back and waiting for hand-outs. And you know, they didn't get them. We finally had a come-to-Jesus meeting and told them to get off they back-sides and do SOMETHING! Anything! Stop waiting on hand-outs as I have to feed my family also. When, and only when I get overwhelmed then I will give them hand-outs. I sent months developing those leads and relationships while they thought I was crazy and wasting my time.

They are now getting back to the basics just like you said. Working those phones and leads until they die on the vine. They are developing low-cost marketing plans and getting off their back-sides! Will it work? Time will tell!

We all most spend time re-assessing our businesses to see what's working and what's not, and then fix it. There is business out there, we just have to work harder and smarter to find it! Good Luck!
