NRBA Still a Good Way to spend $1,990?

Some of you may have read my "Final Tail Opportunity" blog a few weeks ago, but this is another example of what I am talking about.  I got a call the other day from the NRBA saying that they are finally going to finish processing my application...after about 3 years!!!  So, they did...and they got my references...and, as expected I have now been offered to join this fine organization.  It has always been the premier place for REO Brokers to be designated. It has a long history of brokers who have been around the block for a very long time.  But, I believe I got this opportunity because the REO Business is scaling down and fewer brokers are applying for membership in this group.  Is it really worth the money now?

Is it as exclusive as it once was? Actually, I don't really care about any of that.  Will it lead to more REO business?

As always, I value your feedback and opinions! Happy Holidays!

  • Hi John,

I think you are wise by asking around.

I personal have not been a part of NRBA, but i do know that getting REO business is not about joining a Association or a Club.  Its about starting out with a one asset management company and building your REO resume... Let me know how it turns out if you decide to join NRBA.

  • I had the exact same offer and the exact same reaction.  I looked at the Membership Roster and I see agents that have little to no REO experience which does lead me to believe they are not as exclusive as they once were.  I called them and they said that the Membership has no guarantees but those who attend workshops, seminars, get certifications, and attend their conference (all of which cost even more money) find it very useful.  Then I asked about how a "territory" was established since one of the members did not even have an office within 70 miles of where he had himself registered and they explained that they do not monitor the service areas.  My advice is to call a few of the members on the roster in the State where you do business but that are far enough away that you would not be considered as competition and ask the same two questions I asked.  First, how many direct REO transactions did you do through the membership last year?  Second, will you renew again this year?  That is what I am doing before I make a major investment of nearly $2000.  My bad past experience with Equator Platinum, and RES.net pay to play with little to no return has taught me nothing if not to make sure I do my homework before I open my checkbook.

Let me know what you decide.  Best wishes for a successful 2012.
