Call 911
It’s really important that you report crimes to the police to help you to solve the problem, and you should help prevent it from happening to your neighbors.
Don’t Go In and Don’t Touch Anything
There’s a chance that the burglars are still inside in your home. Keep away from your home or ask help from your neighbors. If they’re gone, don’t do cleaning, the police probably find fingerprints of burglars.
Make Lists, Draw or Put Out Pictures
Keep finding things that are missing. Keep a list and make sure to note any identifying characteristics of items lost. Make sure to note that in the police report and together the drawing or pictures.
Claims Insurance Immediately
Once you have your police report, take it to your insurance company (and if you don't already have either renters or homeowner's insurance, get some now).
Give Yourself Time to Handle the Emotions
Once you've done the police report, filed your insurance claims, and secured your home, it's time to rest. Being robbed is an emotional situation, take time to handle it carefully and surely.
